Podcast SummaryA DIFFERENT AND AMAZING DISPLAY OF MODERN SKILLS
About djIf the role of the artist is to tell what he sees, then Mr Black is a true artist. In all his works, he takes you through the reality of the DJ's world. In a blatant, uncompromising language, he takes you into the ghetto streets and shows you the real deal. He doesn't take the easy way out---merely glamorizing the lifestyle to make himself look good. No, he's a true player...of music, that is, he shows you the unglamorous dark side to the DJing life, the side that leaves you strung out, messed up and dying inside. Truth be told, Mr. Black (aka Kwadwo Ampofo), is a force to reckon with in the game of hip hop and R&B in Ghana. Black began as a DJ with the group PRIME CUT in 1995 for 6 months, then he did a stint with the LA-ROCKA nightclub. In 1997, he joined RADIO UNIVERS, where he hosted the SPACE JAM and his controversial hip-hop show, THE UNIVERSAL HIP-HOP SHOW. He also doubled as a studio DJ with the DOPE RHYMES STUDIO, an underground hip-hop studio located in Nima (The Ghetto). This was where he gathered his followers. Graduating from the University of Ghana with a Diploma in Public Administration, he joined Joy 99.7 FM in 2001. Black won the Rothman DJ Challenge of the year 2001, which had several competitors from countries in West Africa. He has received recognition nationwide and had recently been rated the most listened to Disc Jockey by the readers of local entertainment papers and also appeared in the hip hop magazine BLU in the USA . Black is committed to supporting Ghanaian hip-hop talent on his shows and regularly hosts unsigned talent on his shows. Some of these have featured on his mix tapes. THE TOONTOOM MIX which was released in 2006 is his first mix-tape project and boasts of international artists like Akon, Wayne Wonder and the best of rap artistes from Ghana like Reggie Rocstone ,Castro,Tinny and more. THE RADIO SHOWS on JOY 99.7FM Fridays 9pm - 1am (WEEKEND WARMER) Saturdays 7pm - 12am (OPEN HOUSE PARTY) Sundays 3pm - 5:45pm (JOY BEACH JAM) His shows are head banging and full of life .Playing new music first and blowing up talent is his ‘thang’.So great has been his dj achievements for a DJ in Africa with meagre support that he was interviewed by Iyare from BBCRADIO1EXTRA about life as a d.j in Ghana, and hosting shows on the BBC AFRICA SERVICE (my african city, etc). He has played on the Obour 's 2004 Tour, V.I.P's First Album Launch, 2004/2005 Coca Cola Beach Jam, Lord Kenya's Album Launch,Nite with the Stars (Ghana/Uk),2005 HipHop Outernational which featured Ghana, Germany and France Dj's and Mc's............. etc. Made stars and underground stars have made it on his show.He has trained a lot of dj's who are all successful, names like E-double,Jerry Kapanana,Nii Ayi,etc. THE LIST of some stars who have appeared on his radio shows and mixtapes are Akon, Shaggy,Wayne Wonder,MC Lyte, D.J Green Lantern ,Rampage the last boy scout of flipmode squad,Reggie Rockstone, Obour, Tictac, Obrafuo,Nkasei,Lord Kenya,Akyeame,Sway(UK),Dj Kofi(Uk),Dj Ice(Uk),Iyare(BBC RADIO1 EXTRA),VI.P, Freddie Funkstone, Chosan(Uk),Swatta Kamp(South Africa),Dj Ruckus(USA),Dj Rab(USA)Nana King,Prickie, and the list goes on. Currently Mr. Black can be found by day as a copywriter and a disc-jockey by night or you can hear his loud and captivating voice on a radio or T.V. advert or as a copywriter. DJ Black has recently gained recognition all over the continent as his demand has grown on the southern part of the African continent often. Mr.Black or Dj Black is a DJ who sounds fresh any time you listen to him and is never scared to try new things and is one of the founding heads of BLAQBONE entertainment and TOONTOOM Records who hold down the street music scene in Ghana. He's a boy with a dream who became a man living that dream, and isn't going to bitch about it! He's a very secure person. He would be exactly the same person whether stardom had happened to him or not. He is just who he is, just one of the coolest people on the planet. Cooler that Freddie Jackson sipping a milkshake in a snowstorm, whose intimidating black presence is contrasted by his easy pearly white smile. Come another beautiful day in the hood and DJ Black aka mr tumtum, his blackness will be amping the crowd again on TV or on a street corner in your hood. Be sure and check it out. The story has just begun......!!
